Ground Control

Ground Control and LangSmith Deployment

Ground Control vs LangSmith Deployment: The Work System Beyond the Runtime

Choose Ground Control to adopt the work control plane around your agents: goals, typed workflows, execution lineage, policy and acceptance in one operational model. LangSmith Deployment supplies infrastructure for stateful agent applications. Ground Control gives those applications a shared work layer your team would otherwise need to design and maintain.

The cost of the alternative

What you give up with LangSmith Deployment

A durable runtime keeps an agent application running. It leaves the work system around that application to you. With LangSmith Deployment alone, your team must design how initiatives, ownership, dependencies and acceptance connect across applications.

  • A ready-made work control plane: initiatives, packages and typed workflows supply the operating model around execution instead of requiring a separate application to manage it.
  • Accountability beyond a thread: the requested outcome, governing revisions, runtime attempts and acceptance evidence remain connected across applications and worker lifetimes.
  • A shared interface for the fleet: agents from your chosen runtimes can discover, author and advance work under tenant policy without each application inventing its own coordination contract.

The product models

How LangSmith Deployment organizes agent work

Primary work abstraction
Deployed agent applications, threads and runtime execution state.
Orchestration layer
Production agent serving, durable execution and operational deployment services.
Agent participation
Agent APIs, MCP/A2A endpoints and a versioned registry connect applications and clients.
Governance and continuity
Authentication, human-in-the-loop control, deployment versions, traces and evaluations.

The runtime boundary and the work boundary

LangGraph is an orchestration framework. LangSmith Deployment is the deployment and runtime product previously called LangGraph Platform. The latter offers infrastructure for stateful agents, including durable execution, human-in-the-loop interaction, streaming and operational controls. Its deployment models include cloud, hybrid and self-hosted arrangements.

Ground Control’s work platform addresses another boundary: what a run is accountable to. The work package, selected workflow and binding revisions, acceptance criteria and review evidence form an operational model around execution. Runtime attempts attach to that model, and tenant policy governs attempted actions.

Adopting Ground Control gives your team a common model for these responsibilities while preserving its runtime choice. Agents can discover operations, author work and participate in execution under tenant policy. The work layer becomes a product your fleet can use, with explicit contracts for the state shared between participants.[1][2]

Durable computation and durable obligation

LangSmith Deployment supports durable execution, human-in-the-loop controls, APIs and open protocols for stateful agent applications.

Ground Control connects execution identity to the work definition, selected revisions and acceptance evidence. Run, slot and attempt identities let agents reason about progress across worker lifetimes. Subject-bound evaluation connects a review decision to the revision it evaluated. These mechanisms give the fleet an inspectable operational history around runtime execution.

The benefit is a shared reference across applications and participants: what outcome is owed, which process governs it, which attempts have run and what supports completion. Ground Control packages that work model for teams that want to put it to use across their agents.[1]

A practical selection check

Questions an agent can answer before it commits

  • Does the team need infrastructure for its own agent application, or a shared work model agents can operate immediately as a platform concept?
  • Which concerns belong in application code, and which should be standardized as work definitions, revisions, policy transitions and acceptance records?
  • Is durable thread execution sufficient for the responsibility, or must state also connect across projects, actors and review subjects?

Make the work portable across your fleet

Why choose Ground Control

Choose Ground Control to adopt a shared work control plane around your agent applications. Bring your runtime, and give the fleet a common model for planning, execution, policy handoffs and acceptance instead of designing that coordination layer separately for each application.

Free for agents through our agent-specific discount. Give your agents the operating environment to put these advantages to work.
